There’s an unfortunate syndrome that afflicts every company from time to time, the “employee hiring merry-go-round.” This fun ride involves hiring inexperienced an untrained employees to replace the experienced ones who have unexpectedly quit. Needless to say, the manager of the particular department or branch has the most fun of all.
Before throwing your hands up in disgust and deriding the company compensation plan as the culprit, consider some other possibilities by asking yourself some questions:
- Why did the employees leave?
- Are the managers part of the solution or part of the problem?
- How can I resolve this problem now and in the future?
The answers to the first will vary from training, to frustration with other employees to poor management and will answer the second. Most small to mid-sized companies have systems already in place to answer the third. The problem lies in the disconnect between the identification of the proper procedures and their implementation.
An HRIS can help resolve this final problem and put an end the preceding ones. For more information, take a look at our article, “Trouble Retaining Employees?” and see what a well- conceived HRIS can do for your company.
