Recently, we received an email from a visitor who suggested that our HRIS Comparison Tool was too wordy.
“Too wordy” is certainly a subjective judgment call, but it got us thinking. What really is the best way to compare and contrast HCM software? Is it by skimming reviews? Calling up a few of the major players and scheduling demos? Attending an HR Tech Conference?
All of these activities may (and even should!) play a role in helping you make a software decision. But there’s more to it than that.
At CompareHRIS, we believe in the value of digging deep. We developed our unique software comparison tool because we believed people should be able to find enough detailed information about the various systems on the market to make an informed decision. And in our experience, that generally wasn't the case.
That’s why our comparison tool is longer than other tools or forms you might find online. Our goal is to give you useful, actionable information about software vendors who offer the capabilities and functions you need. What we've learned over time is that selecting software is a multi-step process that can't be reduced to a quick five-question survey or even one or two demos. Companies that achieve the greatest degree of satisfaction with their software are those willing to put in the time and effort it takes to evaluate their own needs, assess the options that seek to meet those needs, and determine which one is the best fit.
We believe that choosing HR software isn’t supposed to be easy. Just as you wouldn’t buy a house without researching, shopping around, getting an inspection, and going through a dozen other steps, you shouldn’t buy HR software based on a quick survey or half-hour of research. This is a decision that has the potential to shape your business for better or worse. It deserves careful attention. Five or fewer questions on a survey can't identify what a software product is capable of, and they certainly don't provide enough detail to evaluate your own organization's needs.
There’s no magic solution to purchasing software. It takes research and time. But our comparison tool can help in three ways:
Of course, there’s more to purchasing software than needs analysis and creating a short list. (For an in-depth look at the total process, download our free Buyer's Guide). But this is a good starting place as you comb through the many different options available to you.
